Open Settings → Recording to change your input and recording controls.
Choose your input
- Connect your microphone. Confirm it appears in System Settings → Sound → Input.
- In TessFlo, open Settings → Recording → Microphone.
- Choose Automatic (recommended) to follow your Mac’s physical default input, or select a microphone.
- Record a short sentence. Check that the level moves, then stop and review the text.
TessFlo remembers a selected device when it can identify it again. If it is unavailable, TessFlo may use another physical microphone while keeping your preference. Automatic selection excludes virtual and aggregate audio devices; it does not promise to capture system or call audio.
After connecting or removing a device, wait until TessFlo is listening before speaking. Audio missed during a disconnection cannot be recovered. If both TessFlo’s waveform and the macOS input meter are flat, check the microphone or system input first.
Change the shortcuts
- Select Dictation shortcut and enter your preferred keys.
- Check the shortcut TessFlo saves. If it conflicts with macOS or another app, TessFlo may offer or select an alternative.
- Set Cancel shortcut separately. It discards active recording or processing.
- If asked, enable Input Monitoring for TessFlo in System Settings. Return to TessFlo and verify the status. The on-screen Cancel control also works.
The initial defaults are Option+Space to start/stop and Option+X to cancel. Previously saved shortcuts stay unchanged.
Keep controls visible
Show recording overlay displays the audio level and recording controls. It starts on, with a waveform at the bottom of the screen. Use Overlay style and Overlay position to change its appearance and location.
Hiding the overlay does not stop recording or disable shortcuts. Use Stop or Cancel to finish. Live captions starts off and needs a supported model.
Startup and recording feedback
Start TessFlo at login starts off. Enable it to open TessFlo when you sign in, with TessFlo installed in Applications. If macOS rejects the change, read the message and check the saved setting.
Play recording sounds also starts off. Enable it, then expand Sound settings to choose Start, Stop, Cancel, and Error sounds. Use each play button to preview it. Sounds provide feedback; check the listening state and finished text to confirm recording worked.
