Light Cleanup can revise grammar and punctuation after transcription. It runs locally, starts off, and is optional. Ordinary dictation does not need it or its separate agreement.
Before you start: Light Cleanup requires at least 12 GB of physical memory and an approximately 1.7 GB download. Memory pressure can pause it even on an eligible Mac.
Set up Light Cleanup
- Open Writing tools → Writing cleanup.
- Find Light Cleanup and choose Download.
- Read its agreement, Gemma Terms, and prohibited-use restrictions. Continue only if you agree. Declining leaves normal speech dictation available.
- Wait for the download and installation checks to finish.
- Enable Improve completed dictation. Allow time for preparation if shown.
- Dictate a short sentence, stop, and review the result.
What to expect
Cleanup adds a step after transcription and may take more time. Downloaded, enabled, and ready are different states.
TessFlo may keep the recognized text unchanged when it cannot safely apply a correction. It may also skip emails, URLs, codes, short text, or corrections rejected by its checks. Unchanged text does not necessarily mean you need to reinstall.
Review the result before sending it. Cleanup can make mistakes or change meaning.
Supported History entries retain the original recognized text. Use Restore recognized text to restore that entry if offered. This does not undo text already pasted into another app.
Turn cleanup off
Switch Improve completed dictation off. Future dictations will skip cleanup. You can keep dictating with your speech model; turning cleanup off does not delete its downloaded model.
